Re: Nonlinear analysis with displacement controlled loading
Start by checking if the unit conversions you used are correct. Then try to check if all material properties, section dimensions, applied displacement,... are all in the unit that you are expecting. Try to print out this values and check if they are in the correct unit values you are expecting them ...

OPensees hangs( how to kill analysis after a certain time)
Hello, i am running a time history analysis of a 2d frame and opensees hangs at a certain time step. I read "fmk" mentioning on a previous post that this might happen if someone uses ForcebeamColumn element. He also proposed to use a thread to run the analysis and kill it if it is taking t...

Concentrated plastic hinge model
I am trying to model a concentrated plastic hinge model using a "IMKPinching" material . This material is available as a dll . And i have 2 problems to define this material 1) I have included the dll file in the in my tcl script directory but opensees still doesnt recognize it 2) When defi...

Gravity Load effect on Dynamic Load
I have a model that has a leaning column with loads applied on the nodes of the leaning column and a uniform line load on the beam of the frame itself. I am running a time history analysis to check the response of the structure. I was expecting the response of the structure (Drift, displacement ) to...

Mode shape display for 3D
I am trying to use this example, 3d Rc Model, display Modeshape function but I can't seem to get it to work. The Deformed shape option works but the option for Modeshape hangs. I checked which line of the code is responsible for this and I have found that the -nowipe option for display recorder is t...

Re: Zero length elements with shear-axial interaction
If the source code is available I would like to receive it too. I am currently facing the same problem. I am trying to model a concentrated plastic hinge for my 3d model. Thanks

Re: Period calculation for cracked section
I am going to use beamwithhinges element and assign a cracked section property for the middle section and use a fiber section for the two ends. I will also compare my results with the time period calculated during time history analysis. Thanks for the replies Selimgunay.

Re: Period calculation for cracked section
and if it's necessary to assign an elastic section to use cracked section stiffness, how will I be able to model the plastic hinges at the end? Thank you

Re: Period calculation for cracked section
Thanks, so how can I assign a cracked section stiffness for a fiber section? I have seen examples for an elastic section but I haven't seen any for a fiber section.

Re: Period calculation for cracked section
I am proceeding by taking the period calculated by eigenanalysis using uncracked sections as a fundamental period. I am not sure if that is the correct way and i would appreciate it if someone can confirm it.

Re: Period calculation for cracked section
Yes and as u suggested I should do eigenvalue analysis at a time that corresponds to the strong part of the ground motion. Otherwise, I will have a period with the uncracked crosssection stiffness, which is small. So is there a way to know the fundamental period of the concrete structure without run...

Re: Zero length element
i am grateful for your swift replies. But I still can't understand how I can make my rotation unitless.i have from experiment the dampers Moment(Knm) vs Rotational(radians) curve. And I want to use this data to model it as a zero-length element in opensees. So how can I specify the material properti...
