unexpected stressStrain response.
Dear Experts, I have successfully simulated a 2D frame with 2 steel braces and have conducted a pushover analysis. The uniaxial material of the two braces are the same so I do expect the same stress-strain behavior but with opposite signs for both braces. The force-displacement response of the contr...

Re: Why inserting rigidlink bar fails the analysis?
Thanks for the answer. How much should be the alpha values (the ones in the Penalty constraint) in this case?

Why inserting rigidlink bar fails the analysis?
Hello experts!! I have a simple problem in which a bar is loaded in tension. In this case, everything goes well and I have the correct responses. Now I would like to make a part of my element rigid. So I added a rigidlink bar to the problem. But as soon as adding it, the problem fails without doing ...

How to divide one Brace element into two segments?
Hi experts, Suppose that I have one brace in my structure that I would like to divide it into two segments, one completely rigid and the other as an ordinary steel. When I try to model such behavior the responses are not correct. I am trying to avoid buckling. Now the question is this. Should I defi...

Re: error in pushover response in the case of plasticity.
Thanks a lot for your answer. I used a concrete material with a minimum value for tensile strength and it works.

Re: How to model elastic and perfectly plastic concrete & st
Because I am using my opensees model in order to validate the results that I have in my code, which is already lumped plasticity. Therefore, it is required to compare my results with a distributed plasticity one. By the way, how can I define a hinge with desired properties? do you have any example?

error in pushover response in the case of plasticity.
Hi experts, I have a really clear question. In the pushover analysis of my RC 2D frame, I am using different types of elements. I expect that when using nonlinear elements (force based or dispbased), the initial pushover response gives nearly the same values as when using elastic elements. I have te...

How to model elastic and perfectly plastic concrete & steel?
Dear all, I am about to model my 2D frame in opensees using elastic perfectly plastic material for steel and concrete. By using concrete01 and putting the yielding and ultimate values of stress, my pushover analysis never stops and goes to infinity values for target deformation. Is there any suggest...

how to get the same results with disp and force elements?
Dear all, I have a simple 1 bay to story RC frame in 2-dimensional space. I performed pushover analysis in 3 different conditions. 1. with forcebeamcolumn elements. 2. with nonlinearbeamcolumn elements 3. with dispbeamcolumn elements. The results of forcebeamcolumn and nonlinearbeamcolumn are very s...

Re: Assigning different rebar detailing sections to a member
But how? I couldn't see any option like forcebeamcolumn element that you are able to define the number of integration points, their positions and also their sections.

Define one RC element with two sections.
Hi, I have a reinforce concrete beam in my RC model that should be defined with two different sections because of the different distributions of the steel reinforcement along the element. I have defined 2 fiber sections and I am using dispBeamColumn to define the elements. In order to construct my m...

Problem in nonlinear pushover analysis
Dear all, I have a simple 2D RC frame that I have modelled to run the pushover analysis. To begin with, I am testing my model with gravity loads only but I am encountering a problem with it. The code works fine with elastic elements and the results are exactly the same as the other code that I have ...

How to record the element forces in different points?
I have created my elastic frame with elasticBeamColumn elements. The analysis runs well and the node forces and disps are correct. But how can I record the element response in different points of the element in order to plot the bending moment or axial force diagram of the element?
Thanks in advance
