OpenSEES citations and documentation
Hello all, I am in the final stages of writing my thesis, and as such I am putting together all my citations. I would like to know if there are specific technical documents that have been made available to the public that detail the development of the available materials and elements in OpenSEES? Fo...

Re: Warning
Frank, Thanks for the response! In my case, I do have the system command before the test command when this message presents. This is my analysis setup: constraints Transformation numberer RCM system UmfPack set testTypeStatic NormDispIncr test $testTypeStatic 5.e-4 250 0 algorithm NewtonLineSearch 0...

Re: Warning
I am also currently dealing with this message and am not sure what exactly it is. I have looked at the source code and I see that has something to do with asking if a solution algorithm has been set, but I am not sure about the details of "theAlgo" object and what it encapsulates, so I am ...

Re: Update Truss Material
I suspected the situation surrounding the parameter and updateParameter commands was as you said as it seemed the documentation on them was fairly light. Thank you for the links to the source code though, I appreciate it! I will make the best of it and see what I come up with!

Re: Update Truss Material
Thanks for the reply! Should the parameter command work for any material, or is it only a certain subset of materials? I'm using Steel02 for my truss element, but the parameter command does not seem to want to let me specify a parameter within the Steel02 material. For example, I cannot get this to ...

Update Truss Material
Hello all, I would like to know if there is a way to update the material model used for a truss element during analysis, i.e. # element truss $eleTag $iNode $jNode $A $matTag # do some things here # update $matTag to $matTag1 # do some more things # I have tried parameterizing the material using: pa...

Repeat pushover analysis without rebuilding model
Hi all, I have been performing a time-dependent procedure in which I build a model and perform a pushover analysis within a loop for a certain number of time steps. On each pass through the loop, I wipe everything and rebuild the model from scratch, with the changing of certain parameters representi...

Re: Error with Simple Truss Structure
Frank,
Thank you for the help. constraining the rotational DOF for each node did not fix the problem but changing to an ndf of 2 did. Would you have any insight into why that may be?
Thanks!
Dan

Error with Simple Truss Structure
Hello all, I have encountered errors in a more complex model I am working on when attempting to apply prestressing force to a steel tendon which is built using truss elements. I will not go through the details of the more complex model, but in that scenario I am getting errors when trying to apply g...

Re: Recording material behavior in zeroLength elements
Thank you for responding! After making that switch, I am still not getting output from the recorder. I thought that a material tag had to be specified after the word "material" when using the recorder in this format. Any help is appreciated.

Recording material behavior in zeroLength elements
Hello all, I have a fairly basic question. I am running an analysis that is meant to display material behavior. I accomplish this by modeling a zeroLength element, fixing it at one end, and forcing the free end through increasing sinusoidal displacement in a single direction and then recording nodal...

Appropriate application of InitStrainMaterial
Hello all! I am modeling a prestressed concrete pile that is subjected to gravity and then pushover analysis. For the prestressed strands, I am using truss elements constructed with InitStrainMaterial to impose initial stress. In my case, the initial strain is large and will immediately induce nonli...
