Manders Model for Concrete 01

Hi all, I am using Manders Model for Concrete01 material. OpenSees require four inputs to model concrete01. From Manders model I can maximum compressive strength and respective strain, but how can I get Crushing Strength and strain at crushing strength? Would it be alright to have same Crushing Stre...

contact elements, and rigid links in OpenSees Visual

Hi Everyone, I have used contact elements for modeling abutment-deck interaction and interaction of adjacent decks in expansion joint in a bridge model. To be able to use and support contact element, I used rigid links of bridge deck width size. And I also used Zerolength element for modeling the ab...

Re: Why there are initial moment and shear forces?

@Veshna I am using contact element to represent bridge abutment-deck interaction and interaction at adjacent decks in expansion joint. When I apply displacement time history with zero values in all the locations where earthquake loading should be applied to bridge, it gives me constant initial force...

Why there are initial moment and shear forces?

Hi everyone, I am working on seismic analysis of a bridge. After adding contact element 3D to represent abutment model, the bridge moves in 10 seconds when I put zero in all the Earthquake loading that I applied to all the foundation and abutments. While the bridge model does not respond like the br...

Re: Recorder for forces of contact element (zerolength eleme

If you use zerolength element to represent bearing does not it should have deformation?

Re: Recorder for forces of contact element (zerolength eleme

It is zeroLengthContact3D element. However I could find out the recorder for forces. Thank you for your help

Recorder for forces of contact element (zerolength element)

Hi all,

I am trying to see the forces in contact element, however the recorder gives me just time and no element forces. What is the proper recorder to use to get forces of zerolength element?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Re: error or problem

It seems like your project and mine are similar. I am also working on bridge to get bridge response under earthquake. I am also having the same problem. The relative displacement between the nodes of zerolength element cannot be positive and negative both, however I am getting this wierd result. If ...

Re: Zero length element for bearing

However the relative displacement of the deck and top of the pier of the bridge is large enough. Are we supposed to use the nodes that represent bearings or that represent deck and top of the pier to see if the deck unseat the pier?

Zero length element for bearing

Hi everyone, I have used zero length element to represent rubber bearing on a bridge model. I recorded displacement of the two nodes that represent the bearing and the displacement of the nodes are almost same. Aren't there relative displacement supposed to be large? So that we know that the bearing...

Re: suggestion on use of earthquake components

Thank you so much for sharing your idea. I found out that it has a significant effect on axial force and moment demands.

However I think I am making my project too complicated by adding the vertical component.

suggestion on use of earthquake components

Hi guys, I am working on analyzing a nonlinear behavior of bridge under seismic event. Most of the papers are using just the horizontal component of earthquake. But I tried to use both horizontal and vertical component of earthquake. I hope I am not making the analysis too complicated. If anyone has...

Re: modeling concrete01

Thank you so much. I had same kind of problem before and changed the integration points to 2 or 3 as required. It ran fine, and now I want to remove guide angles, bearings and key plates. It is again showing me the same kind of errors. Why this is happening again and again when I fixed the problem?

Re: modeling concrete01

Hi everyone, I am trying to run a bridge model without guide angle, key plates and bearing, but I am getting the following errors after 16 seconds. DirectIntegrationAnalysis::analyze() - the Integrator failed at time 18.8 WARNING - ForceBeamColumn3d::update - failed to get compatible element forces ...
