Re: Zero length element in a multistory concrete frame
I suggest you to use Beam With Hinges Element for concentrated plasticity.

Re: Which one? Sap or Opensees
if you want to model frame structures and make pushover analysis (or dynamic) I suggest you to use opensees. It has great uniaxial materials for concrete and you can put fibers in your beams` section ,using distributed plasticity. If you specify your problem you will get a better answer about the ca...

Re: How can we improve behavior of nonlinear beam column?
Try to change the iteration of the nlbeam-column element . The default value is 10^-16 , its too high !!!

connection between brick and beam with zerolength element
I try to connect a brick element (ndm 3 ndf 3) with a beam (ndm 3 ndf 6) using zerolength element but there is a problem because the end nodes of zerolength have different dof . Is it possible to connect different type of elements with zerolength element?

Is there any command to calculate the n first periods of a building.
I just need the first period, how can i easily get it?

I use brick elements in my model and I wonder if there is a command which can divide a big brick element into small bricks elements.
Something like mesh command...

Re: Why does Opensees application window exit itself after a
I had face this problem a lot of time. Probably there is a basic problem in your model, like wrong BasicBuilder or you create an element connecting nodes which doesn`t exist. As opensees reading your script, it shows a warning message when the error appears and after it closes. I suggest you to ente...

no ! actually the vector xz has the direction of the local z axis. So, you just notice the connection between local and global z axis and that`s how you define the transformation...

construction stages
Hello everybody. I wonder if i can solve a problem with contrsuction stages in opensees. Firstly I would like to make a gravity analysis in a concrete framed building and after I want to add some inframed shear walls . Then i should make a pushover analysis ! Do you believe that is possible to do it...

Re: Brick Elements
When you use brick elements you don`t define geometric transformation by this command.
This command is used for frame transformation.

So you should simulate your problem in a 3-D model.
You cannot use a 2D model for out of plane reactions...

Re: join beam-column element to brick element
I also use different domain in my simulations and i connect different elements ( for example beams with bricks) with equalDOF command and there is no problem.
