Re: Stiffness proportional damping to zeroLength element

Thank you, Frank.

Already I checked the manual. If I use "-doRayleigh", first Rayleigh command should be defined, so, it will apply to the whole of the model. But I just wanna apply 20% damping to the zeroLength element. How can I do this?

Thank you.

Stiffness proportional damping to zeroLength element

Hi all,

As far as I know, OpenSees does not apply stiffness proportional damping to zeroLength elements. Is there any solution?

Thanks.

Damping in EBFs analysis

Hi all, Rides and Popov (1994) mentioned that using Rayleigh damping is inappropriate for EBFs where the links go inelastic. "To avoid developing misleadingly larger axial forces in braces and columns that are adjacent to links that yield in shear, it is recommended that a form of nonproportion...

Horizontal and vertical ground motions at same time

Hi all, Could you please guide me how I can apply horizontal and vertical ground motions at the same time? If I define: pattern UniformExcitation 1 1 -accel $accelSeries-H; pattern UniformExcitation 2 2 -accel $accelSeries-V; is it enough? Or should I define analysis commands (test, algorithm, syste...

Nonprismatic section

Dear all,

I wanna model a gable frame steel structure (industrial building). Could you please guide me how I can make the nonprismatic sections?

Tnx.

timber section

Hi all,

I wanna model a timber (wood)-concrete composite beam. As you know timber behavior is not isotropic.
Could you please guide me what material/element should be employed for modeling of this beam?

Thanks.

record period at given disp.

Hi,

How can I get the period of structure at a given displacement? (nonlinear analysis which stiffness varies).

tnx

hysteresis curve is thinner

Hi all, The hysteresis loading-unloading loop (flag curve) obtained from OpenSees follows the same in the experimental test in modeling of self-centering system. But the OpenSees curve is thinner in comparison with test (lower energy absorbed). Would you please let me know the possible reasons? Than...

SVGM

Dear all,

Spatially varying ground motion (SVGM) is caused by incoherence effect, wave passage, and local site conditions.
How can we apply this in opensees?

tnx.

Re: peer ground motion

thanks for your response. I use the default commands:

timeSeries Path 1000 -dt 0.01 -filePath elcentro.acc -factor 9.8;
pattern UniformExcitation 2 1 -accel 1001;

so, it reads the accelerations horizontally...
