nonlinear behavior
Frank or Vesna, I've been trying to model several actual column tests using nonlinearBeamColumn and beamWithHinges elements. The beamWithHinges element results in behavior dissimilar to actual test results When using nonlinearBeamColumn elements, the analysis stops prematurely. I've got a synopsis i...

doc versions
I can't seem to find an obvious feature: How to use documentation for a particular version of OpenSees. At a minimum, the changing of call statements and the addition/deletion of functionality would make this necessary, but I can't seem to find any reference to this. I'm still using v2.1.0, and I'm ...

access to section/material/element information
Lets say I want to model several R/C sections. I then set up several fiberSec sections. Also, let those section commands be in a loop so that some of the variables are changed each iteration. So, to keep track of the different combinations, I'd like to be able to output the information that goes int...

BuildingTCL
Hello,
Is there a translator that will read existing opensees files, and convert them so that they can be used by BuildingTCL? I'd very much like to use the post-processing capabilities with existing models.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: pushover
Hello, I've used beamWithHinges and dispBeamColumn, but I haven't used nonlinearbeamcolumn. Can you please tell me where the documentation is for that element? I have looked at the Element Command page on the Wiki, but it's not there. To address the original question, would adding more integration p...

Re: 64 bit opensees
I was reading your webpage for the parallel version of opensees, and it states specifically needing the intel architecture. Since mpich2 is dependent upon the OS, wouldn't the parallel version of opensees also be dependent only on the os? So, a 6-core AMD processor would be sufficient? Thanks, Jeff

64 bit opensees
Hello, I'm assuming that the 'regular' opensees executable is compiled for 32 bits. If I wanted to used opensees using Windows 7 64 bit, is the only way to take advantage of 64 bits is to using the SP or MP version? I'm thinking that if I don't use the SP or MP verison, then WOW64 will be needed, sl...

ElasticPP material
Thanks for your reply. I can understand the different integrator, but I'm not sure about why the sp should be used instead. I guess this won't matter when I put it in a larger model thats driven by an earthquake record, but I'd like to know.
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff

question about ElasticPP material
Hello, I have yet another question. I'm trying to get a simplified model to run before I put it into a larger, bridge model. I currently have a simple vertical column, that I'm pushing over. I have a zeroLength element at the base using the ElasticPP material. The current material has a slope of 160...

EQ directions
That's what I thought. I'll probably make a new tcl script that will take the old 2 accel records and make new earthquake acceleration records treating the old accel values as vectors and breaking them into new components to reflect the new directions. Is this the same as your option #1?
Thanks
Thanks

Eq orientation
Lets say the two earthquakes are still orthogonal to each other, but I want to rotate them relative to the longitudinal axis of the bridge. So, maybe a rotation of 30 degrees or 45 degrees, or better yet, a variable amount of theta degrees.

EQ direction
Hello,
currently I have two earthquakes records being applied to directions 1 and 3. If I wanted to rotate these, what's the easiest way? Do I need to rotate the nodes relative to the global axes, or is there a more direct method to do it?
Thanks,
jeff

odd behavior with gap element?
Hi, It's been a long time since I've had a question. I have a bridge model, on which I have abutments being simply modeled with gap elements and truss elements. I know that the zero length element should be used here, but I didn't know about it when I made the model. Anyway, I have checked the abutm...

binaries for older macs
Frank/Sylvia,
I have an older Mac using the PPC chip that isn't doing anything, and I was wondering if you already make a universal binary with your normal builds that would run on an older machine using the older chip sets. I'm thinking you don't, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks
